Welcome Second Grade Reporters!

Introduction
Have you ever wondered about things like why we say the Pledge of Allegiance or why the American flag is red, white and blue?
Have you ever wondered who gave us the Statue of Liberty and why the Liberty Bell has a crack in it?
Many people do not know all the facts!

This is your chance to find out about national symbols and share what you learn with others!
The Task
Your teacher will assign you to a team of reporters.
You and other members of your team will be investigating one of our national symbols. Your job is to make a presentation for our “national symbol special news report” or design a brochure that tells about the symbol.

Your information must include:
* the five Ws: Who, What, When, Where
& Why your symbol is important

* include illustrations or photographs
to go with your news story or brochure

The Process
1.)  Choose a national symbol to investigate as a team:
American Flag, Bald Eagle, Independence Hall, Liberty Bell, National Anthem, Pledge of Allegiance, Uncle Sam, White House and Statue of Liberty.

2.)  Explore the internet sites to find out information about the symbol that you have chosen.
